Tree thinning continues on the Garfield and Pioneer side of the mountain as the Monarch Pass Vegetation Management Project unfolds.  This initial work focuses on ground-based removal techniques primarily on lower angled terrain within the ski area boundary.  Local timber contractors are now working their way down the Sleepy Hollow corridor removing dead and dying trees affected by the spruce beetle infestation.  It does look quite different as these tree islands are thinned but it is easy to see the incredible skiing & riding opportunities that will be available in these areas once covered in our mid-winter snow-pack.  On-site skidding, processing, decking and removal will soon be underway.  With every update on the vegetation management project, I like to remind everyone to please stay clear of these areas while timber operations are underway.
