Steady Snow

The 2019/20 Winter Season has been a consistent one.  While we haven’t seen many double digit days, the maintenance type storms that we have experienced have added up.  In fact, we have only had four double digit days this season (one in Nov & three in Dec) https://salud-hombres.com/. What has been the main player this year is the smaller but reliable storms that have been blowing through. During the three month stretch of Dec, Jan & Feb, we reported snow on 49 out of 91 days (54% of days). Most of these storms were in the 2″ – 6″ range.

Another factor that has helped this year is avoiding the prolonged dry spells that have plagued some seasons. Our longest stretch without reportable snow during the three month stretch was seven days in December. January saw its longest dry spell totaling five days, while February was only four. This makes a big difference in simply maintaining soft conditions throughout the season. Cold temps for much of this time has helped preserve snow as well.

Looking back at 10 years of snow records, this years’ steady and consistent snowfall has added up. Through the month of February, we have had our fourth snowiest winter in the last decade. 2016-17 was pushing 300″ of snow at the end of February while we had 258″ this year.

The even better news is that we are not done yet. There is close to five weeks left in our lift served ski season here at Monarch. March and April can deliver. We have snow in the forecast this week with a more significant storm slated for the weekend. Next week looks to continue the trend with additional snowfall potential.
