Monarch Cloud

It was another Monarch Cloud day! This is what we refer to when storms deliver quite a bit more snow at Monarch than what was originally forecast. Due to our location perched atop the Continental Divide, we often see this occur due to what is called orographic lift. This meteorological event happens when moisture within the storm clouds is pushed by the wind up against the mountains. As the storm clouds are forced to rise in elevation, water condenses as it cools and every extra flake is wrung out of the clouds and falls onto our slopes. Today was one of those days. If you were here, you know it was good.
