As of this afternoon (Thursday 3/12), the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment was reporting 44 presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Colorado. Those cases have occurred throughout Colorado, both in the mountains and along the Front Range.
Monarch Mountain is committed to the health and well-being of our employees and guests. We are working closely with local and State agencies as the novel Coronavirus, (COVID-19) situation unfolds. We are addressing concerns based on their professional direction and guidance. Employees have been instructed to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendations for preventative actions to minimize the spread of COVID-19. All Monarch Mountain staff members have paid sick leave available to them if needed. There have been no specific incidents or risks identified specifically at Monarch Mountain and we are open for skiing and riding.
Our cleaning staff has been following strict guidelines for several weeks now with additional efforts in the base lodge and nearby facilities. Today, we are clearing out some tables to make additional room for personal space in the lodge. Our lift attendants and operators have relaxed our loading policies so that families can ride together or individuals can ride alone if desired. We have 800 acres of skiing and riding in our USFS Special Use Permitted area, so there is plenty of room to have a moment of Zen out there. I know we all could use one about now.
We at Monarch Mountain love to ski and ride. We understand that these are challenging times, and we are working diligently to minimize risks while addressing the concerns of our guests, employees & local community. We are taking these precautionary steps in hopes that we can all still find a way to enjoy some time in the mountains.
