CDNST/CT Detour

With the second phase of the Monarch Pass Vegetation Management Project (MPVMP) soon to begin, public safety on the trails within the ski area has recently been reviewed by the USFS and Monarch Mountain. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and the Colorado Trail (Collegiate West-Section CW05) travel through the Monarch Mountain Special Use Permitted area. A short portion of these trails pass directly through zones that will have active timber and helicopter removal work occurring during this project.

Due to the concern for public safety, people traveling this section of trail will be rerouted during the next phase of the MPVMP. Those traveling on the 1.58 mile section of trail between Old Monarch Pass (Point 19-019) and the summit of Old, Old Monarch Pass (Point 19-035) / (Located at the intersection the Great Divide Trail and the Snowburn Trail) will utilize this detour during timber removal operations.

Scheduled dates for timber and/or helicopter removal will be August 22-September 30, 2019. The detour will involve traveling west of the ski area along the Old Monarch Pass Road (CR 237) and then on the original Old, Old Monarch Pass Road that accesses the CDNST/CT trail near the NW side of the Monarch Mountain SUP boundary. The alternate route will be signed and flagged. See attached maps for further detail. Additional questions can be directed to the USFS (539-3591) or Monarch Mountain (530-5000).   Info directly from the CT Foundation can be found here.
