Cat Terrain

Our Snowcat Manager put this map together a few years back…actually I think it was over a decade ago! For those of you who have hiked Mirkwood and gazed longingly to the North at what lies beyond, here is an overview for you. The map shows a detailed look at the cat skiing terrain along with Mirkwood Basin. The east side of the terrain encompasses the “Dog Ridge” above Waterdog Lakes. That explains the nomenclature on this ridge. The west side of the Divide into the GMUG includes No Name Bowl. This bowl primarily has a south aspect and is easily seen from the top of the Great Divide trail after unloading the Panorama Lift. With much of this terrain located along the Continental Divide, it is known for quickly refreshing with a few flakes and a little wind loading. The cat operation has gone through three names over it’s 30 year history…Great Divide Snowcat Tours, Monarch Snowcat Tours and Monarch Cat Skiing.
