Breezeway, Outback & More

What a start! This initial month of winter has been astounding for Monarch. We are quickly approaching 100″ of snowfall for the season. With the most recent storms in the last week, we have been able to open all kinds of terrain including 23 black diamond/most difficult trails. We currently have the most trails open in all of Colorado. We have all of our aerial lifts spinning including Breezeway which opened on Thanksgiving. It’s the earliest opening of this lift in my 21 winter seasons at Monarch.

Today we will open some bowl skiing in Outback and Shagnasty. The park crew opened Tilt, our beginner terrain park yesterday as well. We have one more most difficult trail to work on and one terrain park before all of our lift accessed terrain is open….and it’s not even December yet!

Our cat skiing guides and operators are already pushing out & building over the snow roads to Mirkwood and across the Waterdog ridge while starting to conduct avalanche mitigation routes. Our Slope Maintenance department has been working in the Tubing Park and getting the ramps and lanes prepped for an early December opening.

All of these things would not be possible without all of the Mountain Ops departments working together for a common goal. Kudos to all of you! (Ski Patrol, Slope Maintenance/Park Crew, Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Cat Skiing, Base Services and the Tubing Park Crew).
