Learn at Monarch’s Ski & Ride School Monarch’s Ski and Ride School offers ski and snowboard lessons for everyone in the family, and for every experience level. The young ones (ages 3-6) can learn how to snowboard in the Children’s Center, where they’ll take kids ski or snowboard lessons, enjoy play-time and eat lunch in a comfortable, supervised environment. Monarch’s Junior Mountain program - designed for 7-12 year olds - offers full and half day ski and snowboard lessons. Both the Children’s Center and Junior Mountain programs are designed to give parents free time on the slopes, while their children are having fun while they learn. Breaks and lunch are included in the kids’ ski lessons because we like to keep them fresh and make sure they’re having a good time.
Want to learn how to ski together? Monarch’s Ski School offers a special “Stay Together Play Together” ski or snowboard lesson where up to six friends or family members can learn how to snowboard or ski together, with a private instructor. At the Monarch Mountain Ski and Ride School, we make sure we offer the type of learning you want, so you’re sure to learn, and have fun while you’re at it.
For every ski or snowboard lesson, our professional, patient and friendly instructors start out by meeting with you to cover the basics: putting on gear the right way, getting up on the board or skis, stopping (one of the most important new skills) and a review of the Skiers’ Responsibility Code. As the day progresses, everyone will learn how to ski or snowboard at their own pace. The new Caterpillar conveyor lift (described below) makes it easy to get onto the mountain at first. Then, as you progress and become more confident, you’ll be ready to ride the chairlifts. Our lift attendants make sure you’re comfortable and safely loaded on the lift as you get on, and they’re there to help at the top, where you simply stand up and glide down a gentle ramp.
Once your classmates have all made the trip up, your instructor will gather you together and begin the process of transforming you into a skier or snowboarder. During the lesson you’ll learn on smoothly groomed snow of the gentle beginner runs. Your instructor will teach you how to turn, control your speed and stop - and will keep smiling the entire time. Your progress will go at a speed that’s comfortable for you and within your limits, because we want to keep the day you learn to ski fun! When you’re ready for a break you can stop in at the Starbuck’s in the base lodge for a little pick-me-up.
The New Caterpillar Offers Beginners Easy Access Monarch has a new lift designed just for beginners. The new 450-foot-long covered conveyor lift - the Caterpillar - has been installed at the base of the mountain and serves the Snowflake beginner run. This lift runs along the surface of the snow, which makes it easy for beginner skiers and snowboarders to load and unload. A clear plexiglas cover protects you from the elements as you go up the mountain, making your snowboard lesson much more pleasant. When you’re ready to tackle the chairlift and ride up the mountain, the Tumbelina beginner double chair runs right alongside the Caterpillar. From the top of Tumbelina you can ski some long, gentle beginner runs: Glade, Little Jo and Rookie.
