Preparing for Your Trip
Skiing and snowboarding takes place in outdoor environments at high mountain elevations. Adapting for ever changing conditions can be a challenge. Here is a list of some things to consider in your preparation process:
• Dress in wool or synthetic layers so you have the option to shed or add clothing as conditions change. Avoid cotton---it gets wet and stays wet.
• Wear one pair of comfortable wool or wool blend socks.
• Choose gloves that are made for winter sports. They should have a water resistant outer
shell and light insulating layers inside. Mittens are usually warmer than gloves.
• Eye protection is necessary. Wear sunglasses for clear sunny days or ski goggles for
stormy or low light conditions.
• Having a stocking cap available for head and ear protection is recommended.
• Apply sunscreen initially and regularly throughout the day. Our high altitude rays can
find you even on cloudy days.
• Be well rested and hydrated when you arrive.
• Plan for drive time and expect to arrive at the mountain at least 1 hour prior to your scheduled lesson. Click here for directions to Monarch Mountain.

Upon Arrival
As you pull off of US Highway 50 into the Monarch Mountain Parking Lot you will be met by our friendly Guest Services Staff and they will guide you to a parking space. As you come up the main stairway out of the parking lot you will see the Lesson and Rental Center to your right. Enter the main doors and approach the Reservations Window. There is a good chance that you will be greeted by the same person that took your reservation. He or she will present you with your lift tickets and vouchers for your lessons and rentals. You will be guided to the Rental Reservations Desk where a knowledgeable member of the rental shop staff will have your equipment prepared and waiting for you.

Adjacent to the Rental Reservations Desk is an exit that leads to the Ski and Ride School Meeting Area. Please step through the doors to the meeting area 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start of your lesson. A friendly Ski and Ride School Supervisor will guide you to your age and equipment specific lesson and introduce you to your instructor.

Life Long Learning and Friendship
Your instructor wants to know who you are and will do his or her best to tailor the experience to you. Instructors are kind and patient and will answer any questions that you may have about the mountain and the local community. Your new instructor friend will welcome you to Monarch and provide you with a safe, fun, learning experience that will open the door to future meetings and a life-long learning partnership.
