Monarch Cat Skiing

Imagine snow from supreme Powder to variable and challenging backcountry conditions, spectacular views from the Continental Divide, 1000 plus acres of “Expert” only terrain with steep open slopes, tightly spaced trees, cliff drops, and No Name Bowl – that's the Monarch Cat Skiing experience. Monarch Cat Skiing has been operating from 1990 under a US Forest Service Outfitting and Guiding special use permit, and is one of the premium cat skiing programs in North America.


Tune those fat skis or board, get a good nights rest, have a healthy breakfast, put a smile on your face, and be prepared for one of the most unforgettable experiences you'll ever have!! 

Seating is limited to 12 guests per day, and Cat Skiing trips usually run from the end of December through early April, as conditions permit. We do require a minimum of five reservations per trip, and have a minimum age limit of 14 to 17 years of age with parental approval.

Tour Cost

Regular Season - January 10 -March 22, 2015

Individual: $300 total, $300 required deposit
Full Cat (12 people): $3,300 total, $1650 required deposit

Early/Late Season - December 29, 2014 – January 9, 2015 and March 23 - April 12, 2015

Individual: $225 total, $225 required deposit

Full Cat (12 people): $2,475 total, $1,237.50 required deposit

A normal Cat Skiing day will average 10 to 12 runs, with an average 900 vertical feet per run.

Payment in full is due 3 weeks prior to trip date and is non-refundable.

Cat Skiing Schedule

When you arrive at Monarch Mountain, park towards the left side of the parking lot and you will see the Monarch Cat Skiing sign on the entrance door of the main day lodge.  The Cat Skiing meeting area and lounge, as well as restrooms, are located inside this entrance level. 

7:30 – Java Coffee Shop: open on the top level, two flights up, of main day lodge. 

8:00 – Gunbarrel Cafeteria: one flight up, open for breakfast and sells drinks or snack foods to take with you. A hearty breakfast is suggested as you will burn calories throughout the day. Pick-up your equipment from the Rental Shop if you reserved special equipment.

8:30 - 9:00- ORIENTATION: meet your guides in the Cat Skiing Lounge, watch a short safety video, fill out and sign liabilty release forms, and be issued BCA Avalanche Beacon and/or BCA Float Packs. Personal avalanche equipment may be used. Cat Skiing Release Form

9:00 - 9:15 - Board the Breezeway lift to meet the snowcat at the top Patrol building.

1:00 - 1:45 – Complimentary lunch is provided back at the Cat Skiing Lounge.

4:00 PM – Trip Ends; back at Cat Skiing Lounge.  

Before heading home meet in the Sidewinder Saloon for a complimentary house wine, draft beer, or well drink along with bragging rights about your day.
